Chad Daybell Found Guilty in Triple Murder Trial

Live Updates from the Courtroom

Breaking News - May 30, 2024

A jury in Idaho has found Chad Daybell guilty of first-degree murder in the killings of his late wife and his two stepchildren in 2019. The verdict concludes Daybell's nearly two-month trial in the deaths of his ex-wife Tammy Daybell and Joshua "JJ" Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ryan, 16.

The guilty verdict came after more than a day of deliberations. The jury had heard from over 90 witnesses and considered thousands of pages of evidence during the trial.

Daybell's sentencing is scheduled for June 22. He faces the possibility of life in prison without parole.

The case against Daybell was circumstantial, but prosecutors argued that he had planned and carried out the murders in order to collect insurance money and be with his then-girlfriend, Lori Vallow Daybell.

Lori Vallow Daybell is currently awaiting trial on her own charges of first-degree murder in the deaths of her children. Her trial is scheduled to begin in October.
